Welcome to another Vlog Pod Quick tip. In this video I’m going to talk you through a great way to bring your online video strategy into play with your more traditional print marketing campaign. The answer is QR Codes, or Quick Response Codes.

These little boxy barcodes that you’ll see popping up around the place were developed for the automotive industry in Japan to help track car parts during construction but have fast become a clever way to make online properties quickly accessible to smartphone users when they are out and about.

So if you want encourage your customers to view one of your videos when reading your brochure or your magazine ad then why not use a QR Code to make it easy for them. Creating a QR Code for your youtube video is easy, and there are lots of ways to do it. I’ll show you one way that I like.

Head on over to google’s free URL shortener tool at goo.gl and then copy and paste the URL of your video into the box here. Click ‘shorten URL’  which will result is a special google short code you can use to link to your video. If you make sure you are logged in to your google account when you do this, you’ll be able to track the number of times this code is used which can be a great thing to keep an eye on.

Click on the ‘details’ option for your link and you’ll be presented with your QR Code which you can save to your computer. This graphics file can then be inserted into any print material you want. Whenever the code is scanned by a smartphone the link will be tracked and they’ll be taken straight to your Youtube video, and ready to go.

Make sure you give some simple instructions on how to use the QR code in your print material, and be sure to make it clear where scanning the code will take them. Be creative and be strategic, and be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know how you use QR codes or head on over to the Vlog Pod facebook page for more tips and tricks.
