Improve Your Vlogs by Communicating for Community

In tips and tricks, Vlog Pod Vlog

When it comes to communicating, what you say may not be as important as you think.

We all want to belong. We all need to feel a part of something. And communication is at the centre of what lets us do that.

Communicating isn’t just about getting a message across. It’s also about building communities of belonging.

When scientists first started creating theories for communication, they were focussed on information. Theories were all about getting the information from one place to the other. So making sure that what you said got from point A to point B was the most important thing.

But things have moved on from there. What is now recognised is that communication is intimately connected to community. It’s not just about getting information from one spot to another. More importantly, it is about building communities of belonging. Communities that share and participate in rituals of communication that shape who they are. We all do it, because we all need to belong.

What type of community are you hoping to build with your online video content? How are you empowering your viewers to participate to build their sense of belonging? You need to be thinking about these questions as well when you think about what content your next video blog is going to be filled with.

So, why not join our online community by leaving a comment or subscribing and we’ll see you next time on the Vlog Pod.
