Experience Counts

If you’ve been in business for any amount of time, you know that experience counts. Let’s face it, it’s probably one of your biggest assets when it comes to turning a prospect into a client. When they get to meet with you, and see the experience that you bring, then they’re very likely to engage your services.

But in in today’s internet age, anyone can claim to be an expert on anything. With a quick surf around the internet and a little webpage knowhow, someone can put together a webpage that looks like they know about any area of expertise.

Demonstrating Experience Online Takes More than a Website.

Which is why how we measure the “expertise” of people online has changed. We become suspicious that there might be a lack of expertise if we don’t see a solid portfolio of content from a so called expert. When we find a website that hasn’t been updated for a couple of years, or if there’s only a few pages of content with the usual “We’re the experts” kind of jargon, we want more to back up this claim. Because the impression we get is that maybe they’re not as big an expert as they thought.

This is regardless of the experience and expertise they may demonstrate if you ever met them. We start our searches online, and we are unlikely to engage experts with old or limited content. It’s all about the impression that you are giving. A stagnant online presence gives the impression of a stagnant brand.

An Online Video Portfolio Demonstrates your Experience

Creating a regular online videos, and building a back catalogue of video content that you continue to add to regularly gives a great impression that you are an expert in your field.  If you’ve got 50 videos of you unpacking your expertise and helping others, it reassures people that you are the expert that you say you are. Because it’s you on camera, they feel confident that you’re the one creating the content. And because you continue to add videos, it’s clear you’ve not run out of things to say.

Of course you’ll need to ensure that the content you provide has value to back up the initial impression. But by having a great library, you’re starting out on the right foot. After they watch a couple of valuable videos, they’ll be sure you are the expert you say you are, and they’ll feel confident to engage your services.

So what’s your online video portfolio like? Are you positioning yourself as the expert that you really are? The sooner you start, the further ahead of the competition you’ll be.
