4 Tips for Making your Video Contagious
In a previous post I suggested that a viral video is maybe not what you want in your online video strategy. But, this doesn’t mean that you don’t want the right people watching and sharing your videos. So today’s post contains my top four tips to help you make your videos more contagious.
Increasing how contagious your video is will result in supercharging your online video strategy. So here are my top four tips:
Number 1. Make your video highly relevant to your local area and your micro-niche market. Getting a few hundred to a thousand views in your local area or in your micro-niche market is probably going to be better for your business than millions of views worldwide. Whilst there are fewer views, each view is extremely beneficial as those viewers are within your target market and in your local area. This means they are much more likely to watch your video for longer, share your video with associates who they think would also find it beneficial, and then to make that move from viewer to client.
Number 2. Be entertaining! Yes, people want to be informed and your videos should be providing them with useful content – but that doesn’t mean you can’t be entertaining as well. Don’t be so serious, allow your team to just be themselves. Think about ways within your video strategy that introduce that element of fun. Keep an eye on what videos are having success in your industry. Whilst you don’t want to just be a copycat, you don’t have to be re-invent the wheel. Adapt the things that you see in some of the more popular videos to suit you and your style.
Number 3. Make sure it’s got value! There’s more on this point in our Moving the free line post, but if you want people to share your videos you’ve got to be willing to give them valuable content. Whilst having an entertaining video shared around is worthwhile, the value is increased when your video is shared because it is valuable. When people get something great for nothing they are much more likely to share it around with their friends and associates. Which creates a larger amount of sharing. It also raises your profile as an expert in the niche to which your valuable content is linked. Making it more likely that people will seek out more of your videos to view.
Number 4. Create buzz! — Creating buzz around a video can help it spread. Don’t see your online video strategy as a separate part of your marketing, see it as an integral and intertwined element. Building your social network strategically enables you to make sure people know there is a new video they might be interested in. It’s also good to do more than send the video across all your various social platforms. Think about how to build anticipation. Perhaps take some photos whilst your doing the shoot to share on instagram so people know something new will be coming soon. Maybe share a related online article or blog post across your FaceBook page. Then tweet the video link when it gets loaded online. And always focus on driving new engaged subscribers to your Youtube channel.
So they are my top tips; Be relevant, be entertaining, give something of value and create some buzz!
